Just a few thoughts

What Is “The Cause” All About?

Some of you might be wondering, what is the church you’re planting all about? Where did the name come from? And where is the church going to be located? Hopefully, the following will answer all those questions!

“The Cause” came from a few words that Jesus spoke in John 18.37, “To this end I was born, and for this CAUSE I came into the world, that My life would bear witness to the truth.” We believe that there is a God-given Cause for each one of us to not only discover, but to live out,  and ultimately point others to the unconditional love of God.  I don’t know about you, but I am convinced that the church is the greatest cause on the planet.  There are great businesses, non-profits and other organizations that do great things, but the church opens its arms to every facet of society and offers a solution that can heal the deepest hurts and bridge gaps that have often seemed hopeless.

Our heart is to build a thriving local church, that not only teaches the eternal truths of the Word of God but mobilizes individuals and families to live them out in there everyday lives.  We believe that the Gospel never changes but the methods that we use to reach people do. It says in Psalms that, “Those who are planted in the courts of God, will flourish”.  Our goal is to create a fun, loving, faith-filled community that will help people flourish and become all that God has designed them to be.

The church will be located in the Central Corridor, right in the heart of the city.  The beauty of this location is that the demographics are very diverse.  There are four college campuses within a three-mile radius, as well as a handful of high schools & middle schools. Residential housing surrounds it and it also holds Kansas City’s premier shopping, dining and entertainment destinations. In this part of the city you will see everything from a college student just starting out to a person with a doctorate degree and people with million dollar houses walking the sidewalks that several homeless people call home. What an opportunity to reach out to all of these people!

Brandi and I’s new adventure

Yes, it’s true. December 27th will be Brandi and I’s last Sunday working for Abundant Life Church. At the beginning of the year, we will be moving to Kansas City with our friends Kyle and Liz Turner. Together, we will begin the process of starting The Cause Community Church-a brand new church right in the heart of the city. This is a decision we came to after a lot of prayer and long talks with each other. We are confident this is the next step we’re supposed to take but, of course, that doesn’t make leaving our friends in Oklahoma any easier. Over the last few years, we’ve made wonderful connections here and they will be sorely missed.

This process all began when we became friends with the Turners. Just a few conversations into our new relationship, we began talking and dreaming about what it would be like to start a church together. Those talks turned into plans and the time to put those plans into action has now arrived.

Over the next several days, I’ll begin to fill you in on all the details about the church, our transition, and how you can partner with Brandi and I as we begin this new adventure. Hopefully, I will even have a brand new personal website you can visit. We would really appreciate your prayers as we begin this transition-we know there are challenges that lie ahead but we are even more certain that “if God be for us, who can be against us.” (Romans 8:31)

With love,
Kyle and Brandi

Free Spotlight Countdown

This is a countdown I made for our God at the Movies series. It’s free to download and use for whatever you need it for. You will need a Vimeo account to download it, though. Technical Details: I used 3 spotlights inside after effects and then applied Trapcode Lux. I used expressions to change the spotlights’ point of interest over time.

Heading Back to Kansas

Tomorrow morning I’m leaving at 6 a.m. to head to Hays, KS. Speaking at a youth conference on Friday night at my little brothers church. I’ll be leaving super early Saturday morning to get back Bartlesville to help set the church up for our “God at the Movies” series starting on Sunday. So, it will be a busy weekend-but should be fun!

30 weeks

Brandi is 30 weeks pregnant today with our son, Elliot. It went by really, really fast. Now I’m not sure if I want the last ten weeks to go by really fast or really slow. I suppose there are benifits to both. Either way, September 1st will be here before we know it!

You may have noticed that I haven’t been bloggings as frequently here. That’s simply because I’ve been “microblogging” on Twitter. For all those that enjoy reading my blog, please feel free to follow me on twitter.

Things I’m excited about

I was thinking last night about several upcoming things that I’m excited about. Then, I realized that most of them are happening in September. Here’s the run down.

1. Elliot Prescott Bloom-supposed to be born on Sept. 1st. (everything else pales in comparison to that one but I’m still excited about them.)
2. Snow Leopard comes out. Will I be upgrading for a mere $29? Yes I will.
3. Final Cut Studio 3. While I’m not even sure this is happening in 2009, it’s possible it will be released around the same time that Snow Leopard is. If it is released, I will buy it the day it comes out.
4. “Record” from the makers of Reason comes out. Not sure if I’ll buy this or not but I’m going to be keeping my eye on it. Looks promising.
5. I’m going to buy a used upright piano to stick in my home studio. I can get one really cheap on Craigslist and then just fix it up a bit. (or a lot depending on how tore up it is)
